My stay at Locanda Di San Martino was unique and immersive, staying in an actual cave room was a nice experience, but there were some snags with luggage transport. The breakfast was fantastic, with local specialties and even live music—a good way to start the day. However, the hassles with the elevators and navigating the hotel with bags were a bit cumbersome. Overall, I'd say it was a great experience, just be prepared for some challenges.

Rooms

My room was spacious and comfortable, highlighting the charm of staying in a cave, but I wished for more amenities like a coffee machine or mini bar. The cave rooms do vary significantly in size, which can be a surprise, especially if you're expecting something more uniform.
Service
6.0
The front desk staff were friendly, particularly at check-in, but I ran into some issues later with a service that felt disinterested. I really needed help with my luggage, but it wasn't readily offered until I asked, which was frustrating during check-in.
Location

The hotel's location in the Sassi was perfect for exploring Matera—close to the main attractions and restaurants, but be ready to navigate some steep paths with your bags, especially if you're not fit. Despite the workout, the views of the illuminated city at night were stunning.
Dining

Breakfast exceeded my expectations with a great variety of local foods and the atmosphere was enhanced by live music. It made dining a highlight of my stay, and I really enjoyed trying the regional specialties.

The thermal bath was a great addition, providing a unique way to unwind, though I felt a bit rushed to use it due to my schedule. Overall, the facilities were well-maintained, but I didn’t utilize all the possible offerings due to time constraints.

My stay at Locanda Di San Martino was quite an experience. The unique setting among the caves offered amazing views of Matera, especially at night. While the breakfast was plentiful with local specialties, I found the room a bit chilly and damp, and there was limited storage available. Overall, it was a nice visit, but I recommend being prepared for the cave accommodations.

The room was spacious and charmingly decorated, though I struggled with the cold temperature and lack of storage. The shower stall was quite small, which was a bit of a downside.

The staff were extremely helpful, assisting with luggage and local recommendations. However, check-in could have been more efficient during busy hours.

The spa facilities, including the thermal pool, provided a unique relaxation experience, though it came with an additional fee that I hadn't anticipated.

My stay at Locanda Di San Martino was truly a nice experience. The spacious cave room was beautifully appointed, blending modern comforts with the historic charm of Matera. However, I found the €20 fee for spa access a bit disappointing; I felt it should have been included in our stay. Overall, I was left enchanted by the stunning views and the vibrant atmosphere of the hotel.

My stay at Locanda Di San Martino was quite the adventure, with its unique cave accommodations offering an lovely experience. I loved the spa area, especially the underground thermal pool, which was a real highlight. The breakfast was tasty with a good range of options, but the service could've been friendlier at times.
